Executive Remote Worker Yucatán Dining Experience

Categories: Community Events

The purpose of this article is to share an example of one of the many fun things we do during Executive Remote Worker Coworking Trips.

This time, we’re coming to you from the city of Merida – located on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico.

Last night, we hired a local chef to come to our house and prepare a Mexican meal for us. I also want to mention that we were very appreciative of the care she took to adapt the menu to various eating restrictions.

Here is a recap of our amazing meal last night:

Sikil Pak

Our appetizer was Sikil Pak, a traditional dip made of tomatoes and ground pumpkin seeds.

I swore it was a bean dip but the chef confirmed NO beans were harmed in the making of this starter!

Sopa de Lima

This is Sopa de Lima was SO good! The base is a chicken broth and you add your own shredded chicken and crispy tortilla strips.

[The vegetarian option was a fresh tomato soup that I didn’t try but was told it was quite good.]

Back in the US, I often order caldo de pollo in Mexican restaurants which is somewhat similar.

However, this soup was significantly better than any Mexican soup I’ve had in the US. [no offense, Alejandro!]

Chile Rellenos

While not a traditional entrée from the Yucatán, chile rellenos are stuffed chile or poblano peppers, lightly battered, pan fried, and topped with tomato sauce (which we all missed in our pictures).

The chef prepared two varieties for us: some stuffed with spiced ground beef, cheese, and diced almonds and some stuffed with cheese. Both were very delicious!

Tres Leches

For dessert, she made Tres Leches for us! Tres Leches translates to three milks which are: condensed milk, evaporated milk, and media crema. The result is a very moist and delicious dessert. Also, the “frosting” was basically just heavy whipping cream.  SO GOOD!

Fun In-between Work

What a really cool experience we got to meet and toast some tequila shots with our new Mexican friends while enjoying amazing food!

This is just another example of the unique things you can do when you travel and work remotely… We spent the day working and, after our work was done, we got to partake in an authentically Mexican experience in the evening!

I also want to give a huge thank you to Beto, our awesome concierge from the Burro y Flauta Vacation Rentals. On top of attending to all our questions and needs, he was the main point person for making this experience happen.

As I always say, “If you can work remotely, why not work from somewhere amazing?”

Consider joining our community so you can join us for these types of fun and interesting experiences while traveling the world and working remotely!
