You’re Boring.

You’re boring.

There.

I said it.

You know how I know?

Sure, you have a nice, comfortable lifestyle:

Houses, cars, kids in college, annual vacations at all-inclusive resorts, tee times at the country club, extensive wine collection, large 401(k) portfolio, etc, etc.

But think about this:

  • Do you ever attend events where you don’t know anyone?
  • Do you introduce yourself to new people at parties or just cling to the people you know?
  • Are you a good listener who can also contribute thoughtful stories & insights?
  • Do you have 2-3 stories ready to share at all times that are entertaining & engaging?

If you answered NO to any of these questions, I hate to break it to you: YOU’RE BORING!

Unfortunately, our society makes it easy to be boring so it’s not entirely your fault. You’ve been programmed to believe the definition of success includes:

      • Get a college degree
      • Earn a steady paycheck
      • Pay your dues & climb the corporate ladder
      • Don’t take risks that might f*ck it all up

Luckily, you can reverse this!

Characteristics of Interesting People

Before we talk about how to change this, let’s review first what makes someone interesting:

  1. Passion. Interesting people are acutely aware of the things that fill their heart & tickle their soul. Their willingness to try new things, regardless of success or failure, allows them to easily identify things they’re passionate about.
  2. Taking action. Interesting people are action-takers who are always game for trying new things & chasing their passion. They refuse to sit on the sidelines, watching other people live their best lives.
  3. Lifelong learning. Interesting people have a constant natural curiosity & will always hunt down opportunities to learn new things. They know learning doesn’t end when they receive a diploma – it just begins!
  4. Uniqueness. Interesting people march to the beat of their own drum. They hold firm to their personal values & don’t care what other people think.

How to Be More Interesting

Understanding these characteristics is important, but here are some actionable things you can do to become less boring:

      • Read books on lots of different topics.
      • Put yourself in situations to meet new people.
      • Set a cadence to regularly try new things.
      • Practice telling stories.

All of these action items will make you more interesting but my #1 recommendation is to: TRAVEL MORE!

I Can Help

After giving up my comfortable corporate salary & office with a window to travel the world full-time, I figured out a fool-proof system to help business professionals travel more while:

  • Keeping their steady paycheck.
  • Using minimal PTO.
  • Not waiting for retirement.
